Hemlo Mining drills 89.9 g/t gold over 3.0 metres at Ontario mine
Hemlo Mining Corp. [HMMC-TSXV, HMMCF-OTCQX] has announced additional assay results from its ongoing drilling program designed to support future resource growth across the Hemlo Gold Mine, located near Marathon, Ontario.
The company said additional assay results from the South-Rim Zone continue to define a newly recognized, high-grade mineralized domain. Drilling highlights include 89.89 g/t gold over 3.0 metres, 14.80 g/t gold over 10.0 metres and 12.97 g/t gold over 7.0 metres. The 2026 drilling has now demonstrated approximately 500 metres of high-grade mineralization within the interpreted 1.5-kilometr South-Riim Zone, leaving approximately 1.0 kilometre of additional extent to be tested and defined.
Hemlo Gold shares edged higher on the news, rising 1.7% or 14 cents to $8.34. The shares trade in a 52-week range of $8.49 and $3.70.
“South-Rim is rapidly emerging as one of the most exciting near-term growth opportunities at Hemlo,’’ said Hemlo Mining CEO Jason Kosec. “Since our initial drilling on May 14, 2026, drilling has continued to deliver strong grades and meaningful widths where predicted, including 89.9 g/t gold over 3.0 metres and 14.8 g/t over 10 metres,’’’ he said. “We have now demonstrated approximately 500 metres of high-grade mineralization within the interpreted 1.5-kilometre zone, with substantial additional extent remaining to be tested. [The zone’s] location, only 50 to 150 metres from [existing underground infrastructure] and the active C-Zone mining creates a potential pathway to low-capital resource growth.” Based on the strength of results, the company has expanded the program and added conversion drilling to potentially advance portions of the zone toward indicated classification.
Meanwhile, South-Rim remains open and is expected to be an important contributor to a comprehensive mineral resource and mineral reserve update targeted for the second half of 2027. In keeping with that goal, the company launched a 130,000-metre exploration drilling program in January, 2026.
The company said the program is advancing as planned, with seven drills currently operating underground and three at surface. Approximately 75,000 metres of drilling have been completed to date across all three programs.
Back in February, 2026, Hemlo announced the successful completion of the first gold pour at its Hemlo Gold Mine since acquiring the operation from Barrick Mining Corp. [ABX-TSX, B-NYSE] on November 26, 2025.
The fabled mine is located 35 kilometres east of Marathon, Ont., and has produced approximately 25 million ounces of gold from both underground and open pit operations since production began in 1985.
The company is looking to establish itself as a leading Canadian mid-tier growth-focused gold producer, with an immediate focus on maximizing the value of the Hemlo mine’s infrastructure, while unlocking new opportunities via an aggressive brownfields exploration program.
The infrastructure includes a 10,000 tonne-per-day mill, a modern underground complex accessed via shaft and ramp system, with 6,000 tonne-per day hoisting capacity plus additional ramp haulage.
