Sun Summit eyes inaugural resource estimate at B.C. project
Sun Summit Minerals Corp. [SMN-TSXV, SMREF-OTCQB] has released an update from its project-wide 2026 exploration program at the company’s JD Project, which is located in the Toodoggone region of northcentral British Columbia.
The company has said it plans to focus its exploration efforts on the JD project, which covers an area of over 15,000 hectares and lies close to active exploration and development projects, including Thesis Gold’s Lawyers-Ranch project, as well as HDI Amarc’s JOY District.
In January, 2024, Sun Summit entered into a definitive option agreement to acquire a 100% interest in the JD project, which was known to contain numerous under-explored epithermal related gold and silver targets as well as porphyry-related copper-gold targets in an emerging mining district.
The company has said the primary goals at JD in 2026 are to advance and expand the Creek and Finn gold-silver targets with the aim to prepare an inaugural mineral resource estimate by the first quarter of 2027. In addition, geological mapping, new geochronological age dating and airborne MobileMT geophysical data will assist to generate and refine new priority targets across the project. The company said new priority targets have been identified along the highly prospective 4.5-kilometre-long epithermal-related Finn to Creek corridor, as well as the 12-kilometre long JD Porphyry trend.
In its latest press release, the company said over 5,100 metres of drilling have been completed across 13 holes at the Creek zone using two drill rigs, with an additional nine holes planned. The holes were designed as both step-out and infill drill holes to investigate the extent and continuity of near-surface, high-grade and bulk tonnage gold mineralization. Highlight intercepts from 2025 drilling at the Creek zone include 81.0 metres of 4.80 g/t gold, including 34 metres of 9.07 g/t gold in drill hole CZ-25-021.
The company said one drill rig has been moved to the Finn zone where up to 19 holes are planned. The holes were designed as step-out, infill and exploration drill holes to investigate the extent and continuity of near-surface bulk tonnage gold mineralization. Highlight intercepts from 2025 include 17 metres of 2.31 g/t gold with 113.1 g/t silver, including 6.0 metres of 5.30 g/t gold with 157.9 g/t silver in drill hole FZ-25-002.
Results from the completed 2026 drill program are expected to contribute to the inaugural mineral resource estimate.
“Our 2026 program has gotten off to a strong start,’’ said Sun Summit CEO Niel Marotta. “Both drill rigs have seen excellent core production under good ground conditions, and the early start this season has put us ahead of schedule,’’ he said. “We have shipped more than 1,400 core samples to the lab from five completed holes, with more data on the way. We look forward to reporting initial results from the Creek Zone in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Sun Summit shares were unchanged at 13 cents. The shares trade in a 52-week range of 26 cents and $0.08.
